The Farm Studios – The Engineers Cabin

Following the design and build of The Farm Studios’ Atmos-capable control room in 2022, MDRN was once again commissioned in the fall of 2023 to address the facility’s final missing piece: a room where engineers could use the character of the space itself as a creative tool.

The neighbouring outbuilding — which also serves as living quarters for visiting bands and engineers — was, until now, an untapped acoustic resource. With its vaulted 21-foot ceiling, wraparound ledgestone wall, detailed LED lighting, and exposed wood architecture, this space carries the atmosphere of a modern-gothic library. That character now works in concert with precision acoustic detailing: balanced low-end absorption, reflective surfaces, and an immersive field designed to inspire.

The Engineer’s Cabin offers a rare creative advantage — a room where architecture, acoustics, and atmosphere converge. It is as much an environment for comfort and focus as it is a tool for capturing sounds with a character unique to this space alone.
