Manic Down Productions – Vocal Booth
I got a call sometime in 2024 from Canadian country producer/writer/artist developer Dan Swinimer of Manic Down Productions. He called in need of an upgrade to his current set up, citing “boomy and muddy” vocals and acoustic guitars as the main issue in his recordings – despite recording professional musicians through a high qaulity analog chain. It didnt take a set of objective room measurements to wrap my head around the fundamental issues of the room. But after the data-set was complete, we drew up a plan to solve his internal energy excesss issues and also add some life to the room by way of a series of diffraction units. The result is an impressively even response across the spectrum. We were able to control the space by seriously fortifying the amount of treatment in the room, but without killing the character. The phase-changing diffractive units open the room up in a way that makes it feel bigger than it is – if you wish to capture that – but also allowing a fully controlled performance as well if that is your objective. This room underwent a serious transformation and we are all very pleased with the results.
